Archomentals, ho!

So I noticed a brief line in the Planescape Monstrous Compendium Volume III this evening. Archomentals are able to grant spells up to 3rd level (4th in person, which I would interpret as being on the same plane, which holds for most other deity rankings). Guess I will have to create priesthoods for them at some point. Now to figure out where they best fit in…

I wholeheartedly approve of this idea!

I’ve always been curious about how the elemental gods (Grumbar, Kossuth, Istishia, and Akadi) were never mentioned in the context of the battle between the good and evil archomentals.

Beyond that, the Elder Elemental God needs to be mentioned (thanks to the Temple of Elemental Evil), and maybe Iuz and Zuggtmoy in that context, though that’s a bit of a stretch.

Beyond that, though…it’s probably just a smattering of gods with elemental themes in their portfolio.

Actually, a *lot* of deities have an element in their portfolios (just look through the Giantish gods), but not a lot of them are elemental deities. The Elder Elemental God, certainly, but he’s about the only one from Monster Mythology who counts. Incidentally, the Elder Elemental God is said to be the father of a number of the Archomentals, so it works out even better.

I think the greater Elemental Gods don’t get involved in the archomental conflicts unless it threatens their domains or interests. I could certainly see them coming in like a parent and putting an end to “childish” squabbles.
