Time for another deity, this time from the Orcish pantheon. Ilneval is Gruumsh’s lieutenant, called to lead Orcish armies when Gruumsh cannot. He is a consummate commander, focusing on strategy over brute force. He is generally the god of elite fighters and orogs in orcish societies, while Bahgtru is generally the god venerated by the regular orc warriors. Enjoy!
Hruggek the Decapitator
April 17, 2012It’s been a while since I had any deities read to post, but I have been steadily working, trying to get all the goblinkin gods done, but I’ve been working on individual sections rather than working on a single god at a time. However, I have gotten some more finished, so now it’s time to put them up and make them available! The first is Hruggek the Decapitator, the head of the bugbear pantheon! One thing I want to do but have not yet done is detail some of the heads he has in his cave in Pandemonium. I’m not sure just what I will do with them, or how powerful they should be. Let me know what you think!
Expanding the Pantheons of the Goblinkin, Part II
March 17, 2012I’m not sure why I didn’t realize it before, but considering goblins and hobgoblins have their own patron deities, norkers and koalinths should as well. So what would these two deities be like? To start with, both would likely be demipowers; norkers and koalinths are significantly less common than goblins or hobgoblins afterall.
The Norker god would be Chaotic Evil like his followers, and could have the portfolios of savage and unorganized combat, individuality, and eating. He would obey Maglubiyet out of fear, but would be unreliable; the other goblin deities would likely use him and his followers as the lowest of cannon fodder in the endless war with the orcish hordes on Acheron. He would likely hate and despise Bargrivyek.
The deity of the koalinth would be an opponent of both Deep Sashelas and Panzuriel; he would probably live on Baator rather than Acheron, like Bargrivyek. His portfolios could include Oceans, Aquatic combat, and Ambush. I don’t think Nomog-Geaya being his superior would make sense, so he would likely be subservient to Maglubiyet only.
Expanding the Pantheons of the Goblinkin
March 9, 2012So, as part of my project, I’ve been looking at the existing goblinkin pantheons, and they really feel like they are too small. The orcish pantheon isn’t too bad, with seven deities (including Dukagsh), but the other pantheons only have four each.
There’s a mention in DMGR4 Monster Mythology of minor bugbear gods of earth and fertility, so clearly we can bump up the bugbears to six there, and the fertility deity would probably work as a female (I kind of feel each one should have at least one female deity…). Obviously, due to the personality of the goblinkin, most of these new deities should have some sort of violent/combat/war/negative take on the portfolios, and many of the typical “good” portfolios would be non-existent, unless they can be twisted (as Luthic’s healing portfolio, in which she only heals warriors after combat). However, I would kind of like to avoid a situation of “this is the goblin version of Luthic, this is the kobold version of Luthic” and that sort of thing, so I’ll need to look at different interpretations, or different twists on the portfolios. A return to posting!
March 5, 2012And (semi) triumphantly I return to posting! I’m still working on the deities, of course, but it’s going slow for a number of reasons, but part of it is that I am not focusing on one deity at a time any more, so it seems slower. I have split up the deities into a series of Books, with the first one comprised of the Goblinoid deities (Orc, Goblin, Bugbear, Kobold, and Meriadar and Stalker). It’s coming along quite well, actually, and probably about 66% done. I don’t have a full sheet to post right now, but I do have a preview, of a deity who quickly became one of my favorites so far: Skiggaret, the Deranged One. I’m especially fond of his Dogma.

Not Dead
August 11, 2011Sorry for the lack of updates. I’m not dead. :) I’ve been really busy, and what little time I’ve been able to spend on my projects have been kind of piecemeal. I have a lot of different deity updates in progress rather than just one at a time. Hopefully I’ll have something to post soon, though.
Shamans and Witch Doctors
June 4, 2011Amongst the clergy in the priesthoods of most of the goblinoid pantheons are both shamans and witch doctors. There are a number of different versions of shamans available to players and DMs to use; the most prominent being the Shaman kit for clerics in the Complete Book of Humanoids and the Shaman class in Player’s Option: Spells & Magic/Faiths & Avatars. However, the only option for Witch Doctors is the kit in the Complete Book of Humanoids. One thing I’m going to do is create a class, similar to the S&M/F&A shaman class, as another option. Basically, this would be used in games that prefer the more detailed and powerful shaman to the earlier kit. Purely optional, of course, so DMs can allow either one, or both (perhaps as a greater/lesser witch doctor or something, so some faiths or tribes would have one or the other).
I haven’t worked out the details, but I’m thinking that the witch doctors would have most of the details of the Shaman, but with wizard spell access instead of spirit access. Alternately, I may allow SOME spirit access as well as wizard spell access, as witch doctors are supposed to be pretty similar to shamans. I’m interested in hearing what other people think.
Let’s Play! “Curse of the Azure Bonds”
May 28, 2011I’ve started posting my episodes of Let’s Play! “Curse of the Azure Bonds” on YouTube, so check them out! Should be a fun ride. :) I’m planning to post an episode or two every day.
Kurtulmak the Cunning
May 28, 2011Sorry for the long delay between releases. I’ve been really busy, and I had a major computer hardware failure that has been taking up a lot of my time. I’ve also been working out some publishing ideas for these deity entries. For these reasons, new entries will be rather sparse for the near future.
Kobolds have always been one of my favorite humanoid races. As such, I really liked working on Kurtulmak. I also wrote this from the point of second edition canon, so you will not find any mentions of Tiamat in this document; nor will you find anything explicitly stating they’re reptiles. I personally do not endorse either of those views, but I wrote this entry to be relatively neutral toward either view. It should be easy enough to use this write-up with either viewpoint.
Let’s Play! “Pool of Radiance”
May 3, 2011I should probably post this here, since it is somewhat related, being an AD&D blog and all. :) I started doing a Let’s Play (recorded commentary of a playthrough of a game, basically) of the first SSI Gold Box 1st Ed AD&D Game, Pool of Radiance. I’ll probably be playing through all the Gold Box games at some point, including the Buck Rogers games. Anyway, for those who are interested, you can access the playlist on Youtube. I try to upload a few episodes each day, so keep checking channel or the playlist for updates. I hope you enjoy it!
