Merrgsh and Armmegh were brought to my attention not too long ago over on the Candlekeep forums by none other than Eric Boyd himself. Published in Polyhedron #58 (March 1991) as part of a contest to identify a picture drawn by Jim Holloway, Merrgsh and his wolf Armmegh were written (by Wes Nicholson of Canberra, Australia) to be vaguely independent, but I thought, “What if they can be integrated with the orcish pantheon as a whole? How would that look?” And so here we are!
Kr’tx the Flaming Master
November 1, 2020One of the neogi deities detailed in the article “The Ecology of the Neogi,” in Dragon #214, Kr’tx is that race’s deity of war. It is an unsubtle brute of a neogi, and favored by the umber hulks the neogi keep due to its brutality.

Brilros the Battle Stallion
June 1, 2019Another member of the centaur pantheon, Brilros is the child of Fanthros and Naharra, and sibling to Linroth. He represents war, battle, and strength, and like his sister, is a youthful and vigorous power. He leads centaurs in the defense of their lands, and teaches their warriors strategy and tactics. Anguileusis the Abiding One
March 1, 2017Anguileusis is the imprisoned patron deity of the Anguiliians, eel-like deep sea humanoids with some sort of connection to Sahuagin. The Anguiliians were first presented in the product Sea Devils, but there wasn’t a great deal about them in that book; they received more details in the last of the adventures that accompanied that product, Sea of Blood, which also introduced their imprisoned patron. Anguileusis can be used in a time-traveling campaign, or he could be released through the above-mentioned adventure (or even “off-screen” for any given campaign). Read the rest of this entry »
Nomog-Geaya the General
December 25, 2012The last member of the goblin pantheon is the patron of the hobgoblins, Nomog-Geaya. A merciless combatant and commander, he is the perfect epitome of the ideal hobgoblin warrior. His priests are brutal and belligerent fighters, leading forces into battle at any opportunity. They are so well known for their rigid discipline that Nomog-Geaya has been known to punish those who show excessive emotion, even if it is from such spells as Tasha’s Uncontrollable Hideous Laughter. Enjoy!
Ilneval the Horde Leader
May 4, 2012Time for another deity, this time from the Orcish pantheon. Ilneval is Gruumsh’s lieutenant, called to lead Orcish armies when Gruumsh cannot. He is a consummate commander, focusing on strategy over brute force. He is generally the god of elite fighters and orogs in orcish societies, while Bahgtru is generally the god venerated by the regular orc warriors. Enjoy!
Kurtulmak the Cunning
May 28, 2011Sorry for the long delay between releases. I’ve been really busy, and I had a major computer hardware failure that has been taking up a lot of my time. I’ve also been working out some publishing ideas for these deity entries. For these reasons, new entries will be rather sparse for the near future.
Kobolds have always been one of my favorite humanoid races. As such, I really liked working on Kurtulmak. I also wrote this from the point of second edition canon, so you will not find any mentions of Tiamat in this document; nor will you find anything explicitly stating they’re reptiles. I personally do not endorse either of those views, but I wrote this entry to be relatively neutral toward either view. It should be easy enough to use this write-up with either viewpoint.
Maglubiyet the Mighty One
March 14, 2011Okay, you were probably expecting Trishina next, but she has been slightly delayed (off berrating Deep Sashelas for pursuing an elf maiden, I imagine). Instead, I bring you the chief of the goblin and hobgoblin pantheon, Maglubiyet! Compared to Gruumsh, there was surprisingly little canon on the Lord of Depths and Darkness, so I wasn’t very constrained in my writing. I’m definitely getting a better feel for these documents, too. After working on this one, I’m kind of looking forward to working on Bargrivyek, as I think I’ll turn him into one of the favored gods of spelljamming goblins. That will be a little while off though. Anyway, without further ado, here is Maglubiyet.
Gruumsh One-Eye
January 12, 2011Okay, here’s the second entry in my project to update the gods of Monster Mythology to the 2nd Edition “Faiths & Avatars” format. This time we have the chief deity of the orcish pantheon, Gruumsh.
This time I’ve created a couple spells for Gruumsh’s clergy to use, so I’m interested to hear thoughts on them, too. One is a modification of an existing dwarven spell, and the other is a codification of a special ability granted to Gruumsh’s priests in Monster Mythology. I plan to do that for similar abilities listed for other gods.
