Are you still working on these? Really looking forward to the write-up for Verenestra the Oak Princess when you get around to her. ;-)

    • AuldDragon says:

I am, it has just been slow going. Unfortunately, Verenestra will be a while out, as I’m working on the giant deities now. Thanks for being patient!

  2. Kos says:

Love your work! Really great to see! Do you think you may be able to do the Great Mother and Daragor soon please?

    • AuldDragon says:

Thanks! I’m working on these in order now as it is easier to keep my thoughts coherent, so unfortunately, it will be a while before I get to either Daragor or the Great Mother.

  3. Arnwyn says:

Just letting you know that people not necessarily on Dragonsfoot are watching from afar, so to speak, greatly anticipating the continuing (fantastic) results of your project!

  4. Georgie says:

I’m currently putting together an AD&D campaign for some friends tired of dealing with 3rd edition. I was looking for specialty priests (a la the wonderful trilogy of religion books) and stumbled across you. You had precisely what I was looking for. Thanks for the hard work. I look forward to reading more of your work.

  5. Alzrius says:

I noticed that under the Aquatic Deities header, you have Ilxendren, but not The Blood Queen. Is there a reason why she’s apparently being excluded?

    • AuldDragon says:

She’s under Miscellaneous Underdark Deities, as Piscaethces. She was named in Drizzt Do’Urden’s Guide to the Underdark and Demihuman Deities. Aboleths aren’t really aquatic creatures, which is why she isn’t under the Aquatic header.

      • Alzrius says:

That would explain it; while she’s listed as “The Blood Queen” in her (scant) mentions in Demihuman Deities, I don’t have DDGttU (nor 3.5’s Lords of Madness, where she apparently also appears), so I wasn’t aware of her being renamed.

Thanks for the quick reply setting me straight!

  6. alzrius says:

I just noticed that Yathaghera, the pegasus demigoddess daughter of Eachthighern (Elves of Evermeet, p. 103) isn’t here. Is that an oversight, or is it because of her circumstances (e.g. stated to have no priesthood and living on Evermeet)?

  7. Brujo says:

Hmmm you have any plans to make a condensed pdf out of all your work? Perhaps even publish it under the ogl cia say lulu.com? I would gladly buy a hardcover copy of this work!

    • AuldDragon says:

I would like to eventually offer some compiled volumes, but that will require some additional work (I’d want to include some additional information like the appendices in Faiths & Avatars/Powers & Pantheons/Demihuman Deities) and I would want some artwork. Unfortunately, 2nd Edition is not available under the OGL, so there would be some definite issues with any offerings on lulu.com (it would be nice if they would open up the DM’s Guild for non-FR material and non-5th Edition material, but I’m not holding my breath).

  8. Bardet says:

Currently running a Sea of Fallen Stars campaign, in the Forgotten Realms. It was really cool to find an entry here for Anguileusis! Any chance that you will keep working on this on the future? I was interested in something like these entries for Ilxendren and Panzuriel.
My campaign also features dragon cults from Draconomicon, so I have not enough “thank you” for entries on Hlal and that stuff on Chronepsis. Thanks a lot for this impressive work, discontinued or not.

    • AuldDragon says:

Glad they’ve been beneficial! I’m still working on them, and I have been publishing one a month for a while, so expect another entry in a few days!

  9. alzrius says:

This is a minor thing, but I notice that you haven’t included a link to Ilxendren’s entry here on the overview of deities.

  10. Shan Pig says:

    Your work is great!
I’d like to translate your blog articles into chinese. Can I get your permission?

  11. Dreydon Barber says:

Keep at it, I’ve been looking for this kind of information for days now.

    • AuldDragon says:

Glad you found my stuff then! I try to have a new one every month, so check back near the beginning of the month for new stuff. :)

  12. Barastir says:

Jeff, have you seen my response on the deities cited in the new “Monderkainen’s Tome of Foes” in the Candlekeep Forum?

    • AuldDragon says:

I did, my reply is on the top of page five in the thread; probably got missed in all the back and forth over Vhaeraun and Eilistraee. :) I was hoping for more, but it was about as I expected (other than the literal dumping of every deity they could think of and the splitting of Muamman and Marthammor). Didn’t sound like there’s much information of interest to me. Thanks again!

    • Barastir says:

Alright, glad I could help anyway!

  13. Slar says:

Are these still being done? I stumbled across this while looking up Krocaa, and found the wealth of info. Awesome!

Sadly, the compiled PDF version is on a site that tried to infect my computer. Which sucks, because these are incredibly useful.

Thanks for all your hard work!

  15. Pandaemonium says:

Any idea on when you’ll be getting to the undead deities? I’ve found these to be really useful as it saves me time from pouring through my books.

    • AuldDragon says:

Not at this point, unfortunately. I work on rotating groups, but which group I decide to work on when I finish one is pretty arbitrary and depends on what I feel like working on at the time.

  16. Caio Graco says:

Your work is dramatically well done. There are so much detailed information to be used to a lot of campaigns. It can also be extrapolated to any systems, which is worderfull too. I’m using these descriptions to my campaign in Forgotten Realms, and eager to see your job on Titania and her family!
    Congratulations!

    • AuldDragon says:

Thanks, I really appreciate that, and I’m glad you’re finding it useful in your current campaign! :)

  17. Chronische says:

This is all very well done! Glad to see folk still working hard on 2e all these decades later.

  18. Tehjleck says:

Over a decade and still working to bestow upon us these glorious write ups.

    Cheers to the Auld one!

  19. camelotcrusade says:

I’ve been enjoying these since you started and I’m so grateful you’re doing this. Still looking forward to the rest of the Fey powers (almost there!), and the anti-fey, (esp. QoD and Ceglune). I also wanted to ask if you planned to add Tapann the Undying to the list. I saw him here and there as I read Demihuman Deities today (the 2e book) and thought he’d be a good fit for your blog.

Finally, any plans to turn these into a book that we can download (or even purchase)? I’d love to support that project.

    • AuldDragon says:

I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll do Tapann, but I’ll have to decide soon.

I’d definitely like to do some sort of book (with artwork and everything) but I don’t currently know how feasible that is, both legally and financially. We’ll see what I can do when I’m done with all the deities. :)

      • camelotcrusade says:

Thanks for making him! You’re the best. :D

Next up, I’d love to see Cegilune. We include her in our fey pantheon since hags are so involved, and I’ve used every one of your entries as inspiration (except for hers, pending!). Verenestra is one of my favorites, btw, though all your work is stellar.

  20. Sam says:

Love your work. What’s next after Monster Mythology? Dead Gods? Historical Pantheons?

    • AuldDragon says:

I’m considering doing some monstrous pantheons/gods that don’t even have names, but historical pantheons are definitely on the list.

  21. Oneiros says:

Thank you so much for chipping away at these over the years, hoping you get to juiblex soon! I’m playing a priest of juiblex in a campaign I’m in and there’s not alot of existing info about them. Regardless absolutely stellar work! Thanks for keeping with it

    • AuldDragon says:

Thanks! It’s been a lot of fun (and hard work)! :D

If you haven’t seen it, there’s a little bit of information in the Night Below boxed set. :)

  22. Alzrius says:

Nice to see that Shami-Amourae got added (I’m pretty sure she wasn’t there before). Don’t forget to look at her AD&D 2E entry in “Road to Danger,” as it adds some information that isn’t present in the original “The Stolen Power” adventure back in Dungeon #5.

    • AuldDragon says:

Yep, that’s pretty much what solidified me adding her to the project. That write-up formally made her a real power, whereas the original Dungeon adventure didn’t. :)

  23. Cory “DM Cojo” Gahsman says:

You’re almost done! You’ve added quite a few since the last time I checked in. Thanks for all of your work on these!

  24. Brian Caraway says:

I am actually diving back into doing some of the historical deities, Japanese and Chinese in particular. Like you, I think working on one per month is a good way to go. I of course am willing to share what I came up with if and when you decide to go in that direction. I of course have done a few of the Norse deities that are in my campaign world.

  25. Arnwyn says:

So. Close. To the deities I need… :)
Here’s rooting for Ilsensine, Maanzecorian, Piscaethces, and Cegilune!

  26. Jim says:

I really love the layout and diligence you’ve put forth here AuldDragon. Would love to see Zinzerena!!

  27. Tim says:

I love what I see! Have any idea where one could find a compliment of this listing the Human and Demi-human dieties?

    • AuldDragon says:

Thanks! The Forgotten Realms supplement “Demihuman Deities” has what you need for the drow, dwarven, elven, gnomish, and halfling pantheons. “Faiths & Avatars” and “Powers and Pantheons” covers the human deities of the Forgotten Realms setting; other than the real-world deities in those books, there isn’t anything for full real-world pantheons, unfortunately. Birthright’s human pantheon in this format is located in “Book of Priestcraft” and there was no single source for Greyhawk’s powers, but some were written up in this format in various supplements late in the 2e lifespan.

  28. Alzrius says:

Any chance of adding Thasmudyan to the list? He was only ever featured in DMGR7 The Complete Book of Necromancers, and was formally presented there as “The Lord of Undead,” but his real name was peppered throughout the book, as was his status as a baatezu lord who’d achieved divinity, making him (alongside Asmodeus and Gargauth) one of the very few canonical devil gods in AD&D.

    • AuldDragon says:

Probably not, unless I work on the human gods of Zakhara. I’m not sure I ever noticed that deity’s name though!

  29. TravDoc44 says:

I just discovered your work here, and I am blown away! These entries are all so well done, and give me many ideas for my campaigns!
I’m excited to see the Faceless God of the Yakfolk, when you get to it!
    Keep up the excellent work!
